1st time newbie looking to overclock a bit.

Just wondering if someone could give me some pointers using this combo.

I currently have a 6600 at stock (1.213v)

The ram was runnning on auto at 5-5-5-15 on 1.85v (667) 4:5

I have changed it to the listed settings 3-3-3-12 on 2.2v (667) 4:5 without
problems. (it did crash when I set it to 800)

Current temps are around 28c Idle to 50c when running orthos, gaming
they are around 40c. (Tuniq Tower).

Whats the best way forward to get the most out of it - not looking to go
daft - just looking to try and push a little and learn a bit whilst doing it.

I have read the o/c guide but was just looking for specific help with my
components.

A little knowledge is dangerous so I thought I better post and look for some
help.

thanks.

A repeat of advice previously posted for a member with a similar setup to yours:

Flash to the 2333 BIOS (currently the preferred BIOS for overclocking - a new BIOS has just been released but no word yet on whether it's any good) then try the following (usually best to work up to these settings in steps otherwise if an o/c fails you may end up needing to do the jumper recovery to get into the recovery BIOS before trying again):

These settings are overkill (voltage-wise) for 3.2GHz and are close to what it would take to get you to 3.6GHz (9x 400 - assuming the CPU is good for it - the CPU voltage may require a jump to ~1.45-1.55V for this speed).

In Processor Overrides:

CPU Voltage Override - 1.40V
Enhanced Power Slope - Enabled
Front Side Bus Voltage Override - 1.35
MCH/ICH Voltage Override - 1.55
Host Clock Frequency Override - Manual
Host Clock Frequency - 356 (for 3.2GHz clock speed)

------

In Memory Configuration:

Memory Frequency - 533MHz (for 1:1 with FSB)
Reference Frequency - 266MHz (for 1066MHz bootstrap)
tCL - 4 (should also do 3 - try once all else is stable)
tRCD - 4 (should also do 3 - try once all else is stable)
tRP - 4 (should also do 3 - try once all else is stable)
tRASmin - 12 (if setting above to mainly 3 then set this to 8)
Memory Voltage - 2.0V (if setting most of the above to 3 then this will likely need bumping to 2.2V)

------

Well updated the BIOS :)

Changed the settings kept the memory at 4-4-4-12 and booted no problems
at 3.2.

Although I am a bit worried about the temps. (TAT)

Idle 34 from 28
Gaming 50 from 40
Orthos 66-68 from 50

Are these okay ?

Do I need to decrease the volts / decrease the clock ?

Or reseat the cooler ?

Any input would be helpful.

cheers

Temps are ok but higher than you'd normally expect with the Tuniq at that clock/voltage.
Try a re-seat with some AS5 (a rice grain's worth in the center of the CPU will be sufficient - assuming the CPU heatspreader's not too concave).

If you're happy sticking with 3.2GHz then you can probably reduce the 'CPU Voltage Override' to 1.30-1.35V (start low and check for stability using Orthos Small FFTs test - raise the voltage if the test fails etc).

You can then either remain with the 4-4-4 timings on the RAM (should need no more than 1.8-1.9V at 356MHz) or drop them to 3-3-3 (will need to raise to 2.1-2.3V).

I am a happy with 3.2 atm might get some AS5 at a later date and try it as I
used the Tuniq paste when installing.

Dropped the volts to 1.3 and the temps are around 56c during Orthos with
the fan at the lowest setting.

RAM wise dropped to 3-3-3-8 and upped the volts to 2.2 without any issues.

Is that me or is there anything else needing / can be changed to get better
performance.

Thanks.
