Hi,

So my fiancée has one of these stupid asus Rog gj3jh (has a i7 740 and a 5870) "gaming" laptops.

Ever since she has had it the stability on it is shocking. Recently I tried again to solve the laptops issues, which range From micro freezes, stuttering in games, thermal shut downs in the summer and most annoyingly bluescreening for no apparent reason.

Iv tried;

updating bios, vbios, formatting (without installing bloat ware), memtesting, changing driver versions, changing hard drives and a whole bunch of other random things.

The formatting and switching of hard drives fixed the micro freezes (would randomly freeze for a second quite often while doing anything).

What I'm left with is a graphics card idling at 65 degrees cup idling at 55-60 and totally random blue screens. By total random I mean random, I can't induce a blue screen via stress testing, it will happen at idle, while viewing media or gaming. Sometimes it won't happen for ages sometimes 2-3 times per few hours.

The blue screen error code is a 0x000000000008.

Outside of just binning the piece of junk I have zero idea what to do! I can reseat the cpu and gpu on it and solve the thermal issues but being a laptop that is so much effort and frankly I'll still have the random blue screens which I just have zero idea about.

Does anyone have any suggestions, because I've gone through pretty much everything I can think of.

Seriously considering just binning it and buying her a PC.

updated the network/lan drivers?

not 100% sure what that bsod code is,but some say its network card or memory related

idk how much you can adjust in the bios but a touch more cpu imc voltage or cpu norbridge voltage might help

Have no access to anything worth while in bios, I tried looking for modded bios but yer nothing really came up.

The LAN/wireless drivers have been updated to latest ones I could find.

personally I would strip it to the bones,reapply tim and check everything for loose cables etc.,blocked fan with dust etc..
If you are going to bin it you got nothing to lose doing this as a last resort :)
