You're connected at just under 4.5Mbps. You're unlikely to get any more with the current conditions - what "numerous speed checkers" were you using, is the modem connected to the master socket and do you have any telephone extensions wired in (even if they're not used)?

used speedtest.net manchester server and others i dont remember names of now :(
Yeah the hub is straight to the master socket with the crappy i-plate which changed nothing and micro filter in place.
The hub is the only thing connected in the house, same room.
Thing that gets me is last year they had me do some testing for them of higher speed BB, I had to log results and e-mail back etc.
No physical changes made at my end and during this time my line was doing like 7meg. Now ever since then its slower than it ever was before. :(
Can change ISP in november but wanted to get the best i could out of BT conection seeing as they been naff with me for over the last 5 years!!

* edit. Regarding the speed checkers, 8meg was what most other ISP where saying i should expect. These are what i used to check as well as the speedtest i said b4. ;)

28,000 fec corrections per hour <-- error correction is working HARD on your line
20 crc errors per hour <-- couldnt correct these
51db <-- long line

no way will you get 8mbit sync, maybe 4.5-5mbit if you sync a few hours after sunrise. you didnt have "Like 7mbit", you may have had 700kb/s which is around 6mbit sync, could be that you were on a 6db target margin and its now increased to 9db, due to instability/errored seconds/loss of sync.
does the iplate not already filter the adsl signal?? if it does then you may have double filtered it and given yourself a worse connection.
