Hey, my current pc is pretty fail, so im going with a whole new pc. My budget is around £500 -£600, and I decided to go with pc specialist, because, although they build it for you, the prices are relatively cheap. This is what i've come up with and it totals at £535.

Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9550 (2.83GHz) 1333MHz FSB (Special Offer)

4GB CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz - LIFETIME WARRANTY! (2x2GB)

ASUS® P5QL: DDR2, SATAII, PCI-e x16, 3 PCI, 2 x PCI-e x1

250GB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7,200rpm)

22x DUAL LAYER LIGHTSCRIBE DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM

1GB ATI RADEON™ HD 4870 PCI EXPRESS

STYLISH SILVER/BLACK TRIDENT CASE + 2 FRONT USB

700W Quiet Quad Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan (£58)

However, some people were telling me there is no point getting quad core now that core i7 is out, because it will be outdated soon. For me though, with core i7 on there it goes a fair bit over my budget. Do i buy this or keep saving up for i7? Thanks

if you cant go i7, look at AMD phenom2, the performance level is very similar to 45nm cd2, but am2+/am3 does still have some life left in it as AM3 is quite a new socket

Ok, i've switched the (Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9550 (2.83GHz) 1333MHz) with (AMD PHENOM™ II X3 720 (2.8GHz) BLACK EDITION (Socket AM3)), and it comes out £30 more. Will the phenom be as fast as the quad core, or do I need to make the phenom X4?

Right, the pc will be for gaming, so basically i just go with the phenom and ditch the quad core?

Not many games use more than 2 cores so the X3 is a good comprimise, good at gaming, and has an extra core just incase you ever need it. I would go with that or even the x2 if your just gaming.
