Have been trying to research some monitors but the guides seem *****.

Budget is around 500quid. looking for best gaming monitor, if possible with little backlight bleed.

I bought an asus rog swift monitor a year ago for 700quid and the backlight bleed was awful so returned it.

I'm no monitor expert but as I understand it, a VA screen might be the best move forward for you though an IPS screen is still worth considering (I believe they are more likely to exhibit backlight bleed?).

If you play online fast-paced online games then a TN might also be worth bearing in mind. They tend to be the cheapest monitors.

I don't know what sort of hardware you have but I've had a very quick look and linked a couple of 16:9 1440p screens as that seems to be the sweet spot...

Edit: I believe Hardware Unboxed recently reviewed an MSI monitor (Optix?) which was highly praised, though I don't know what the price is. Worth checking out anyway.
 
VA still suffers bleed though. I've seen some awful examples of it on VA panels. All you avoid on VA is IPS glow, at the expense of gamma/colour shift and more ghosting in games. Bleed is just as likely on both, always a lottery.

I've only ever had TN panels, which I have been quite happy with, though quite how much I'm 'missing out' on the benefits of other technologies, I can't yet appreciate.
