Help with cables & resolution

I'm thinking about moving up from 24inch 1920 by 1200 to a 27inch 25 x 1440.

I am confused by the maximum supported resolutions of many ports.

I need to connect to the monitor a:

PC: that has Dual DVI,HDMi and DP output
Mac: that has only 1 mini display port and 1 dvi out
Laptop: HDMI and thunderbolt (mini display port)

However I have another pc plugged into a 27inch at work via one dvi and windows is running it at 25x14. I was under impression DVI couldn't do that?

Well dual dvi is ONE cable, it just has twice the number of pins than a regular dvi connector.

You will get 1440p over dvi and dp/mini dp but some monitors will do it over hdmi too - I had 1440p over hdmi on my Asus 27.
