Helping a m8 try and find a car (I know nothing about anything with 4 wheels though so thought I'd ask the experts :))

...he wants something thats v reliable for everyday use and good performance without owning a car that looks like it's bumped into halfords (so no scoobys / evo's etc)

Budget is about 18k, so far looking at...

New shape Civic type R (though looks terrible imo)

Audi A3 2.0 TFSI S-line, either the 2wd or Quattro

Looks like the A3 has the most potential with companys like superchips doing simple upgrades to 240bhp and a ton of extra torque..

Any thoughts on these two motors, or alternatives.

Cheers dudes

yeah second hand... about 1yr old, sub 15k milage

If you relaxed those limits just a little bit im sure you could get a nice Nissan 350Z. Ive not know anything to go wrong with either of my brother-in-law's cars and he has always bought quite old ones.

06 models are outside your price bracket at 20K

They can be "Halfordised".. but if you buy a stock looking example they are nice.

350Z nice car, he says he doesn't like them... same with Audi TTs. Car needs to be similar 'class' as the A3 and Civic. So slightly bigger than hot hatch.. his current motor is a 3 series beemer compact but wants decent performance and understated 'wolfs in sheeps clothing' styling.

Slightly older, but you can get a focus rs for £15k with less than 14k miles on the clock. Not understated but a fun fast hatch back.

LOL Scoobys and Evo bumped into Halfords and you mention a Civic, heard it all now :)

How about an Audi S3 turbo?

Are you blind or something!!!???!!!!....LOL!!! :p

I posted about these a while back after seeing one go past me on the road, in THIS thread.

Gotta say, that blue one is stunning, but the white ones look even better.
