Hi
Just a quick one - wondering if the below parts will be ok for a cheap gaming rig? am i missing anything? any recommended upgrades?

Also if anyone can recommend a decent monitor in the £100-£150 range

Cheers in advance

MSI HD 7850 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Cards

Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor

Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (PV38G160C9K)

Thermaltake Smart 530W '80 Plus' Power Supply

Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD

Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

BitFenix Outlaw Gaming Case - Black

OcUK 20x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Looks ok, only concern is that the motherboards BIOS is sufficiently upto date enough to recognize the Ivybridge CPU straight out of the box.

Thanks for the replies

I haven't built a PC in a while and im abit behind with all the new changes so main thing for me is if i will have any trouble putting it together, so as Stulid said, do you think the bios will be ok on that mother board, any recommendations which would make it easier for me? :P Also whats ITX?

Cheers again :)

ITX is a really tiny form factor, the motherboards have limited expansion.

As for the Z68 board, it really does depend what it comes with..may be fine, may not be.

The only way to rule out a incompatibility like that is to get a Z77 board, or borrow a Sandybridge chip if you know someone.

Looking at the thread in the offers area members have been getting rev 2.0 boards which looking at the Gigabyte website comes with a BIOS to accept all CPU'S.

I wouldn't get an i3. It's fine for most existing games, but it's going to make big upcoming games unplayable. I'd go for an i5 (new or 2nd hand) or get an FX-6300.

Absolutely fine. If you can get a 2nd hand 2500K that'd make a huge difference. I sold mine for £100 not long ago, so I guess they're still around that.

With the items you have selected and the £150 budget for a monitor, would get you this.

Case is better than the Merc and the Z77 mobo will allow you to upgrade to an i5.
Or, you could go with the "B" grade mobo and save a few quid.
