Good morning I am looking for some help I have almost finished my 5900x build after a few delays and just need gpu now and I have been looking at 7900xt & 7900xtx Nitro + Vapor but stuck with which one to go for I will be playing 1440p with a mixture of games. any helped would be much appreciated

Season’s Greetings!

7900xtx is the better card objectively - Sapphire Nitro pretty much the best version of it.

For 1440p you could stick with 7900xt but as soon as you decide to upgrade display to 4k/UHD your GPU may end up struggling.

So with the view of handling 4k in future if needed I go for a 7900xtx or a 4080; whichever is the cheapest you can find (or any brand loyalty allows lol). I think OCUK had a Gamerock 4080 on offer - to me that looked liked decent value in these times of inflated prices.

Good Luck.

I am currently on 4k with a 60hz monitor and thought about going back to 1440p with a 144hz monitor 4k is so demanding at the moment 1440p seems to look like the sweet spot. I was originally looking at 4080 but with it being Pci-E 5.0 and I am on 4.0 and also my psu not being 3.0 I turned away from it and seen the 7 series being released. Think i will go with 7900xtx and if i do decide to stay with 4k always go that option.

thanks for your help

For 1440p you could drop down to a 6900/6950 if you can find a decent deal, but if you have the funds, the 7900 XTX is a decent 4K card.

I'd be fairly comfortable using a 4080 if you have a decent PSU, some PSUs you can also buy (or have sent) the 12/16 pin cables.
