Do heat spreaders help much?

if not is it worth getting the white for looks?

Well looking at both they both have heat spreaders both got same timing so performance is the same, both really good RAMs so pick which one suits you. I was planning to get the first one but it would interfere with the size of my Gelid CPU cooler as the heat spreaders are massive. So make sure you have enough room if you do consider getting these.

It depends really. seen as though you have a cpu heatsink/fan then it may collide with the tall heatsinks of the ram, that's why with lots people they opt for the non-heatsink, low profile versions. The heatsinks will benefit you more and they do look nice .. imo. But i think you might be struggling with that cooler as I said, it may collide.
