Help with choices?

I'm going to be building a new rig soon, but will be doing it bit by bit. I sold all of my old bits and got some cash to cover me over Christmas but have already got the itch to buy some new stuff.

I ordered the gigabyte z87x-oc board from overclockers clearance at £80 but decided to cancel as although it was a good purchase, once I factored in memory And a good CPU it would have cost me circa £300+. My dilemma is this, I got offered an asus p9x79 pro, i7 3820 and 16gb of samsung green for £250, I know it's an amazing set up but would I do better to spend the bit more on something newer?

I would say it a good deal as you would be able to upgrade the cpu to ivybridge-e at a later date. but you would need a good cpu cooler with 3820 as I believed they run hot but don't quato me on that.
