A friend of mine wants to order a load of components from OcUK that include:

QX6700 Core2Quad Extreme
Corsair 8500C5 Dominator x 4 (4Gb)
Asus Striker Extreme
Zalman CNPS9700-NT
2 x 8800GTX 768Mb
Enermax Galaxy 1000W PSU

Lucky git...

He also wants to add a physics card (when and if Nvidia release one) to the third PCI-E slot, a couple of HDDs and a DVD-RW etc, but he wants me to build it for him... (of course I offered to burn it in and eval it for 6 months :D , but he said something unrepeatable on here....)

The only thing we're not sure about is the case to go for. He wants something with a side windows and LED fans, but it needs to be large enough inside to support the Enermax Galaxy 1000W PSU, the two 8800GTX cards, the Zalman CNPS9700-NT and have good air cooling for all of it. He liked the look of the Antec 900, but we weren't sure about space and the cable management issues and he's not particularly keen on the look of the Akasa Eclipse although I did mention he could buy the side window panel.

Has anyone got suggestions as to the best case to fit this lot in and keep it cool that looks nice, has a side window and if possible, comes with LED fans. Sorry about the specifics, but we just need to be sure that everything will fit!

Thanks.

Eclipse /w side panel is your best bet. Can pick your LED fans to suit yourself, and it is MASSIVE inside, easily fitting the GTX, dont evenh ave to remove the HDD cage (so if Gfx can get larger, you'll STILL be ok).

As far as PSU goes, i think the Galaxy gets some of its fan blocked off by the PSU surround, but as far as i have heard, it fits ok.

Other than the Eclipse, the most recomended are the Lian-Li's, though personaly i'm not sure which would fit the "window/LED" bill as they are rather sleek and minimalist.

Sounds like he's got more money than sense. You don't need 4 GB of RAM, Quad core CPU or 8800GTX SLI.

2GB, fastest dual core and a single 8800GTX is more than good enough. Wanting a physics cards proves he's a moron.

Checkout the Stacker 810, it doesn't have LED fans but it's a simple job of replacing them, a side window is available if he's so sad he wants to look at the interior of a PC, rather than the display.

There are better coolers than the Zalman CNPS9700-NT. Ninja, Mine or Tuniq Tower for example

Agreed, it does kinda look like your friend has arranged the components by price, and picked the most expensive one each time.

In which case, this might be up his alley:

No idea how well it fits the GTXs, but its the most expensive standard case that OcUK stock, and is rather "bling".... even with the "Fatal1ty" label, which Zalamn put on their "add 10% for a diff colour" line to make things nice and blingy.

Of course, the other option is to slap him around the face with a wet kipper untill he realises that an overclocked E6600, a GTX/GTS, decent 700/800W psu (at the maximum), and 2GB of Team or Crucial 10th in a decent OCing mobo (eg nF 650SLi) is all you need to make games fly, and all you will need for a while. And a case is there to hold and cool the components without being an eyesore, not to make your study into your own personal laser show.

Thanks a lot for all your input - He'll probably end up going for the Zalman Fatal1ty case if he sees it...

LMAO @ squiffy - I think you're right. I know what it is - He had an 865 motherboard with an X850XT and I've just upgraded my own system to a C2D 6600, 2Gb Dominator C5 and an 8800GTX (which as already mentioned is great for games).

Can you see a pattern? I get dual core - he gets quad core, I get 2Gb Dominator memory - he gets 4Gb, I get one 8800GTX - he gets SLI, he obviously thinks doubling everything up will blow mine out of the water, but then I'm quite happy with mine - it plays Oblivion in 1680 x 1050 with everything on max without any problems, so I'm happy! :D

more money than sense, but tbh, is you had the money, who wouldnt want that pc.

I'd spend the money on something else. It's one thing to buy a good PC, but another just to go silly...ie 200TB of storage, even though you only have 3 games, and 1GB of music.

You may be happy with yours but i bet your jealous of his :p

Me? Jealous? ...... ..... Never ;)

I still can't believe he didn't take up my offer of burning it in....I'd quite happily test the quad core and a second 8800GTX for a few months, some people!
