Hello everyone.
My first post on the overclockers forum, so please be gentle with me.
I' m not an avid/computer gamer, but my 13 yr old son is.
We have a Packard Bell ixtreme 6618 which we've had for 4 yrs.
Recently installed windows 8 ( from vista ) and l've just added another 2gb RAM now making it 6gb RAM.

I've just bought an EVGA nvidia gtx 550ti card, and now found out that l need to update the PSU. (Existing card at the moment is a Gt120 )

So my question is please can anyone advise what wattage and type of PSU l need to buy? ( Current one is a 250w psu )

Further spec is :-
CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33Ghz
6GB Ram
64 bit OS
HL-DT-ST DVDRam Gh40FSCSI CD Rom
HDD speed 97Mb/sec (600GB)
Motherboard - FMCP7AM by Packard Bell.
Audio - Realtek High Definition.

Not a typical high end PC for gaming, but my son is going to make his own when he's saved enough and learnt a bit more about PC's etc.

Thanks for any help/advice. :)

No point in buying a seasonic for a 550ti chances are the one you have would actually cope but i'm guessing it doesn't have the correct connections?

That's true but my personal rule is to just go with Seasonic but not just anything, 500W decent brand would do it.

I would agree for a high end system but his isn't, ive been running a i5 @ 4.5ghz and a gtx 670 on a enermax 380w without any issue what so ever

Thanks for quick replys guys.
I'm looking to spend about the 60 quid area for a decent one thats reliable.
Current card is powered from motherboard, new card needs a 6 pin connector.
Spec for 550ti says it needs minimum 400watts
I was looking at the corsair cx600w psu, but have read a few reviews saying they're not that good.
Thinking of going for a bit more than what l need just in case we decide to fit a better graphics card in the future.
Cheers.

I've just been looking on't internet and nothing good being said about Evo Labs so will avoid.
Looking on overclockers website but can't make my mind up about which PSU to buy.

Decisions, decisions .........

I would say that Enermax and Seasonic are neck and neck in terms of quality. Enermax are the only PSU manufacturer which manufacture PSU internals but don't distribute them to other brands for use in their PSU's.

They have always been very good. I might even take an Enermax over a Seasonic to be honest with all these reports of Seasonic OEM PSU's developing coil whine.

That said, at the moment I have an XFX 750W XXX 80+ Silver which is Seasonic OEM and it has also been very good. :)
