Hi,

I'm new to this forum and would appreciate your thoughts and help. The last computer I build from scratch was in 1978, so quite a while back. I'm thinking now to build a pc and have selected some components. I'm not a gamer, more interested in number crunching and video production. Also would appreciate how the components compare to a MacPro which has 2 x xeon processors in (8 core 2.4 Ghz, see http://www.apple.com/uk/macpro/)

I could get a MacPro for the same price with the edu discount.

Here my thoughts:

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

or

£114.99

Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (0A35155)
1TB Capacity, SATA-II Interface, 7200RPM Spin Speed, 8.5ms Average Seek Time, 32MB Cache, 3 Year Warranty

Coolermaster HAF 932 Case - Black (No PSU)

Which CPU Cooler ?

I'm not sure if the memory is correct and which is a good PU cooler for such system.

many thanks in advance
