I am currently in the process of putting together a class debate to try and prove that Windows xp is better than vista overall. I would much appreciate views and arguements for and against vista and xp but we all know vista is just a hardware hog and its like a queer pretty version of xp. Most people will say you can only get 3Gb of memory on xp but i am pretty sre on a 64 bit of xp you can get a lot more can i have this question answered please?

Cheers brammo

Don't debate what you don't know anything about.

to try and prove that Windows xp is better than vista overall.
You'll have already lost from the word go.

vista is just a hardware hog
No its not.

like a queer pretty version of xp
No, its absolutely not.

No, they don't.

can get a lot more can i have this question answered please?
In any 32bit OS, the 'most it will see' (in the simplest possible words here) is around 3.5GB, because the most it can address is 4GB, and it includes all your graphics card RAM etc.

pretty sre on a 64 bit of xp
You'd have to be pretty foolish or have a very specific, particular requirement of a PC to go out and buy XP 64bit instead of Vista 64.

I take it you are a big fan of vista but no offense vista takes up a hell of a lot of your graphics ram and cpu. People say they use vista because there is a ram restriction on xp but on the 64 bit of xp you can run up to 16Gb! FACT!

No, not a big fan of anything - I'm just sensible and know this stuff.

lol.. no. Do you even know what graphics RAM is for?

No, it doesn't.

People say they use vista because there is a ram restriction on xp
They're misinformed, then.

Actually, it is 128 GB (nowadays), but it can technically support up to 16TB.

Nothing wrong with Vista, after using it for best part of a year I could never go back to XP now.

SP1 fixed 99% of the problems early adopters were having.

Vista is ofter missdiagnosed as a memory hog, when what it is actually doing is caching stuff you use often so it can open faster. Free memory is wasted memory.

Also, if you don't like Aero etc, you can just disable all the fancy graphics...

some games run faster in xp
some games run faster in vista

you've got a real childish fanboy xp attitude

programs open quicker in vista, with superfetch

Look if you don't believe what people here are saying why don't you buy a copy for yourself and try it first hand? I think you'll be suprised by the difference between your current perception and the reality....

kk then i will give it a go

but i know i will be dissapointed loads of people that know were running vista have swapped back because of the stupid bugs etc crashes and the fact that it uses amounts of your components that do not need to be used!!!!

you get silly messages every time you want to open something

I hate it i would just rather windows 95 than vista atleast that way my pc wouldnt ask me if i wanted to shut down

Components are there to be used - it's better that than they sit there idle.

Vista caches RAM through a system called Superfetch. This means it preloads commonly used programs into the RAM for faster load times. That's why more of it is used up. What's the point in having 4GB of RAM if you don't use it?

For when I do use it!

I may give it a try I think I aint sure but i might have to buy another 2 gig ram first i aint running it in just 2 gig because then i know it will suck!
