Can anyone help me decide which is the better memory to choose.

I'm comparing the current OC bundle which now has Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C9) 9-9-9-24 with the Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333MHz) Super Low Latency Tri-Channel (PVT36G1333LLK) that was in it.

I'm building a new system from scratch and starting with the bundle. My system will be specifically for FSX - a CPU bound app. I'll be using a GTX280 GPU and WD VelociRaptor drives.

I can't find a good review of the Corsair memory - to see if its performance is similar or better than the Patriot.

Well latency wise you have

9 clocks at 1600MHz = 5.63 nS

vs

7 clocks at 1333MHz = 5.25 nS

So the 1333 is slightly faster.

But if your system can handle all the bandwidth the memory has then 1600 will be able to shovel 20% more data than the 1333.

So overall if you measured it using the benchmark software then the 1600 would have a slighty better score.

But if you measured it using real life - Game FPS, how fast your apps open - then you won't be able to tell the difference.

I suspect the Corsair warranty is better than the Patriot.

Cheers,

Nigel
