long story short, been saving up and buying components for a new PC, got the finishing touches just now, the GPU and OS.

anyway, it'd been all assembled earlier (bar the GPU) and switched on fine, everything powers up, fans spin, single (normal) bios beep.

installed the GPU in the x16 slot on my asus P5B deluxe, connected the 6 pin PCI-e connector and switched it back on, everything powers up bar the GPU, the fan gives a little twitch and then stops.

system:

gigaybte odin 550w GT PSU
Asus P5B deluxe
C2D E5200
OCZ vista gold 4GB
XFX ATi 4830 512mb
bog standard HDD and DVD drive

any ideas?

edit:
tried reseting the cmos, different cables, rechecked all existing cables, made sure that the card only takes 1 6 pin connector, still no joy

time to send it back to OcUK? (only had it 5 minutes )

have you tried the card in another pc or another card? it might be the motherboard needs a bios update to support a PCIe2 card as the P5B is only PCIe1

It's a power issue. Either your PSU 6pin is not producing enough power or there is not enough power from the PCIe16 slot.

its a decent range 550w PSU, i'd have thought it was getting enough power... how would i know (aside from it not working :p) if it wasn't getting enough from the motherboard (i would have thought all motherboards would have provided the same?).
