Hi guys,

For work, I had to interview someone on our Panasonic HC-V500.

Now, everything worked fine, now I need to make a cut in the middle, but I just can't get the file to open in MoviePlus 5 or Windows Movie Maker?!

I've converted it to MP4, when I try to convert it with Pazera to AVI only the audio comes out no video.

When I open it in MediaInfo it says - Video - AVC and Audio - AC-3

You will be able to cut with that, however I'm not sure how much codec support you get with Premiere in trial mode. Another one to try is MPEGStreamclip. Rather than using your converted MP4 try loading it with the original file, so that you aren't compressing it twice over to get what you need and lose quality.

Argh, well Adobe is'nt even installing for me.

I've literally tried everything, i'm really stressing now!

I try to load the MTS file into it but it says it isn't recognised.

Was MPEGStreamclip no use? I've had that read MTS files before now. What platform are you on Mac or PC?

EDIT: just saw you mentioned movie maker.. Never mind :)

"The trial versions of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 and later include all sequence presets, editing modes, and encoders and decoders (codecs) included in the full, activated version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 and later."

You could try mpegstreamclip and 'in' and 'out' the beginning and end of the first half and beginning and end of the second half. You'd scrub to where you want the cut and press 'o' for part one, do the encode, load it up again, find the same place and press 'i' and it should do the second part.

Ah ok, I assume you have tried loading your converted MP4 as well as the original?

You could try getting a trial of Sony Vegas if one exists. I've never tried using it myself but it's an editing system same as any other

I need to compress the file somehow it's 1GB.

My internet download is very slow at the moment so uploading it to google drive will take hours and my manager is asking for it now!

Sounds like a ridiculous request from your manager when they haven't given you the tools to do the job in the first place.

You'll need an actual NLE to be able to do anything here, if I were you I would just tell him the situation and work on getting a working copy of some software.

Upload the 244MB version to dropbox or something, and tell me the bit you wish to cut, i'll make the edit, convert it to any format you wish and re-upload - better be quick though!
