Hi

Im looking to buy a Intel Core duo 2 but im on a budget, i could just stretch to a E6600 but am also looking at a E6320, is there that much difference between the chips in performance? im using my new rig for gaming and abit of video encoding

Possible rig :

E6600 or E6320
Motherboard ( undecided )
2gb ddr2 6400 ram ( undecided )
BFG 8800 gts 320mb

Id be very grateful for help :)

will you be overclocking?

regardless, wait for Intel's price drops in about 3 weeks. if you cant wait then answer the above question so that we can better decide what components you need.

A budget to work with would be nice too?

If you are going to be overclocking I would get the E6320 myself and put the extra cash towards the RAM and mobo myself.

When you change you CPU later on (if you do) you are all set to overclock again.

Well thats what I would do any way. :)

on a tight budget

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz
E6320

if not on a tight budget then, change the Motherboard for an ASUS PB5 delux or Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Intel P35

get the E6600 but i will say this if you can wait for the price drops in 3 weeks or so you can save yourself some money or even better Pick up a G0 stepping E6750 or E6850 that overclock like mad( apparently)

oh and the ram is at a this week price of only £72 which is a bargain so maybe you want to get that while you can.

Just got a e6320 and a ga-p35-dsr3. running at 2.66ghz without even trying, will try for 3ghz later.
