Hi all,

Been having many crashes lately, all while playing games which my PC (see sig.) is capably of running. The games that have crashed are: TF2, BF:BC2 and CoD: Black Ops. I recently (Christmas) installed a sound card (Xonar DG) and installed the drivers that came on the CD. Often when I crash the last bit of sound (1/8 second) will loop, requiring a restart to get rid of it, which is annoying but saves me a headache. Music etc will still be heard but the sound still loops. I've tried exiting the "Xonar DG Audio Center" and ending the process but the sound still remains. When shutting down prior to a restart, the noise only stops at the very moment before the PC is actually off.

So what would you guys suggest I could do to improve overall stability? I've tried disabling Steam in-game but just now on TF2 I got a BSOD with the test "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA" or similar. I'm currently using the 10.8 ATi drivers and if the latest are stable then I'd be happy to upgrade them but would need a walk through as I've mucked stuf up before...

If anymore info is needed do say, although I might not be sure how to get it so noob friendlyness is need ;) I'm running Win 7 64-bit Home Edition, all up-to-date with the Windows updates etc. I've defragged recently and have plenty of space on HDD (25% used).

And another quick question. Under the Windows update page, it says that there are 2 optional updates. One is Microsoft Silverlight, which I guess is fine to not have, and the other is "ATI Technologies Inc. - Display - ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series". I though this might conflict with current drivers and it was under optional so I didn't bother, but is it a good thing to install?

Thanks all

It could well be the graphics drivers, have you overclocked anything?

Installing the new Ati drivers is pretty easy. If you can install a game then it won't be a problem. It will just replace the existing driver so it won't conflict.

Everything is at stock so nothing is overclocked... My CPU temp never goes above 30C and graphics card goes up to 70-80 max so I guess no overheating either.

So is it best to just download the latest drivers and then run the setup? I always thought that this caused problems so just used the ATi utility under "Add/Remove Programs" to uninstall it. But now the old one just gets replaced when the new is installed?
And which are the best ones stability wise at the moment? Is it these?: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx
or is there a "hot-fix" version available?
