I need a power supply that does 10v 1.0A DC

Now does the voltage have to be spot on? or could I use 12v.

or is it the current doesn't have to be exact? I don't know what i'm talking about :)

Voltage will more than likely have to be spot on - most devices won't have very good overvoltage protection.

The current that a power supply can provide CAN be higher than required.

Depends how good the voltage regulation of the equipment is. ;)

I have charged several laptops with chargers that are a couple of volts above the stated for the laptop. Depends on how much you value the equipment.

Voltage matters.
Polarity matters.
Current doesn't (as long as the PSU max output current is above the reuqired current of the device).

There aren't many variable PSUs that support 10V, but I did find one made by Ansmann.
