Help with display of audio/video files

Currently I open all my audio/videos files with VLC player.
However I also have other players on my PC, eg nokia multimedia player
Even though the files open in VLC they display the nokia multimedia player symbol, whereas Im wanting the orange vlc cone symbol to display instead, how can this be achieved?

right click on file-properties-opens with/change to what ever program you want to automatically play the file

Yeh, ive done that but still the nokia multimedia symbol appears on the file

did you remember to click apply after?
Forgot to do that myself quite a few times

Other than that edit the file types. Open My Computer > Tools > Folder Options

Find the file types, make sure they are opening with VLC Player then click Advanced > Change Icon and find the icon file.
