Help with driver

Hi I'm having a problem with my pc and I'm not sure what has happened to it. Everything was working fine the last time I used it but yesterday when I turned it on the computer boots up as normal until I get to the home page I can see my wallpaper but there is no app icons.

I got fead up with trying to solve the problem and completely uninstalled windows when windows reloaded everything was fine but when I reinstalled the driver for my gtx 780 classified it went back to the same thing wallpaper but no apps

Can any help me?

Hi I've tried the latest driver on nvidia a website also the previous one before that plus a beta driver all with the same problem

Could the gpu be faulty?

A GPU wouldn't make your icons disappear and something else would be at fault.

Can you do a system restore to a previous time (a time when you had the icons) and see if that sorts it?

Yes I've tried a couple of different system restore points to still no joy
