Hullo everyone,

I am having a really annoying problem with my PC. I'll describe it briefly here:
  • I upgraded my graphics driver.
  • On the following reboot I get no display over DVI when Window's scrolling loading bar is done.
  • No amount of driver fiddling or reinstallation of Windows has helped.
  • After first thinking it was a graphics card problem, I know believe that it has more to do with my monitor for a combination of reasons.
Please see the thread linked below for much more information on what the problem is and what I have done to try to rectify it.

What I'd like everyone to do, especailly if they own a ViewSonic VX912 and/or an ATI X1900 is to help me with what I've requested in post 36. This is to download Powerstrip, run it and then go to the "Monitor Information" page and use 2 options from the drop down menu in the bottom left corner. These are "read data directly from monitor" and "update EDID", if possible.

I get the following error messages:

  • "DDC communication with the monitor failed or is not supported"
  • "A valid EDID was not detected on the selected monitor. Do you want to scan the bus for a EDID EEPROM?"
  • "A valid EEPROM was not found"
Any feedback you guys can give me that differs from my problem will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Oliver

Well I tried this on my machine at work, which is a Dell Optiplex GX280 with some onboard graphics (Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family) connected via VGA to a Dell E173FP.

That's able to read the EDID directly from the monitor just fine so it seems that EDID is able to be transmitted over VGA. Therefore, it definitely looks like my EDID has become corrupted in some way.

I am going to try and get further help over that the Powerstrip forums and also call up ViewSonic and add this information to my support ticket.
