Help with entry level OcUK prebuilt gaming PC budget 600-1100

Hello all,

So I'm wanting to buy a PC, I mostly just want to play some fairly oldish RTS games, FAF and Stellaris, but I would like it to be able to run new RTS games if one comes along that I like the look of. I was also thinking of getting Cyberpunk 2077 when it comes out, or maybe getting into an MMORPG, but I don't need to run anything at the optimal graphics settings, just not the most basic, if possible. I'm looking for a full build that achieves this, along with a 24-27" monitor and speakers, and a basic QWERTY keyboard and mouse.

The wide range in the budget is because I keep seeing it said that you can build a decent entry level gaming PC for 500 or so, but when I went through the OcUK customization process it ended up coming out at over 1k.

I really don't know what I need, I've tried reading a few online build articles, PCGamer etc, but I don't even know if I 'need' 1080p so it's not all that useful to me. I've not been into PC gaming for about 6 years and back then I had a PC that cost me about 900 from OcUK and did everything I ever asked of it without blinking, though I can't remember what the specs were.

I don't really want to build from scratch again, I've done it twice and I'd rather just pay someone to do it this time. I just want a PC that works first time when I turn it on, plays RTS games at decent settings and doesn't have to be replaced in the next couple of years.

Sorry for the long rant.

Cheers J

Welcome aboard.

Especially for RTS games I would aim for 27" 2560x1440, because those games benefit lot from screen estate.
And would consider medieval 1080p also crap for even web browsing, because of not being able to fit much stuff into screen...
Also monitor is one of the parts which keeps its usage value well, making it one of the best areas to spend more than minimum.
Good news is that RTS games and such don't rely on high fps, so you don't need any high priced model.
Also that lowers graphics card requirements.

Well, there are also 32 inchers at good price.

In fact that's cheaper than other 2560x1440 monitors with variable refresh rate.

Giving up on variable refresh rate would no doubt give more cheap choise, but lack of it isn't without problems.

CPU wise there's now very good selection.
6 core/12 thread Ryzen 3600 does also nicely in anything but the more heavy games.

Ryzen 2000-serie just isn't cheaper enough. Though Ryzen 1000-serie would be cheap like bread.

Though getting faster memory to run at advertised speed might need some work in those.

And with decent motherboard could put 8/12 core models of coming Zen3 architecture from discount in two years to update PC to high level for more years.

mATX size B450M Mortar would be also good for £10 less.

This would be good memory for Ryzen 3600, but might need some manual tuning with Ryzen 1000-serie.

16GB is definitely the minimum for it to last longer and DRAM is now at its cheapest for long time.

Also SSDs are well priced and their price could rise in next year or so.
Hence 500GB would be sensible size to fit games for many years.

For PSU Seasonic Core would come with 7 year warranty and while for that price it's unlikely to be high performing it should last well.

But I think I'll go now to get some rack time...

Thank you so much for taking the time! I really appreciate it.

Do you think this would be a reasonably quiet running rig? That was one other factor I forgot to mention, I would like to avoid a really loud whine/drone

Is this a build that I would have to do myself, or can I fit this together through the OcUK configuration process and have them build it? I don't mind paying a premium to have it prebuilt and tested, I really don't want to have to do too much in the way of configuring and setting up the machine.

Thanks again for responding!
