Hi all

So got my HD7970 card and wanted to connect 3 monitors, went and bought 2x mini DP to DVI adaptors and thought it would just be a matter of plugging 2 monitors through them and one into the DVI connector on the GFX card but this does not appear to work.

Have I bought the wrong things? Can someone advise on what I should have got or know what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

thanks for that, reading his set up it sounds like me he is just using the 2 display port to DVI's and the actual DVI connection on the card, his post says nothing about active adapters etc, so I dont know why mine isnt working right??

After hours of reading lol I think I need the following

1 monitor can attach direct to DVI slot

1 monitor can attach via passive mini displayport to DVI

1 monitor has to attach via active mini displayport to DVI

can anyone confirm beofre I go crosseyed

Thanks

For AMD cards, the first two monitors can be connected via DVI/HDMI/VGA. For the third and above monitors however, they must be connected via Displayport. Passive adapters will not work as that will force to port to act like a DVI/HDMI/VGA port. You need an active adapter so the card can continue outputing DP signals for the third monitor and above.

Here's the rules:
If you are using the Display Port to DVI or HDMI, you need an active adaptor. Passive will not do.

You can use any combination of outputs on the graphic card, except that only two may be non-display port ports. So all of these setups are valid (assuming your card has the outputs:

* 1 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 DP.
* 2 DVI, 1 DP.
* 1 DVI, 2 DP.
* 1 HDMI, 2 DP.
Other combinations are posisble. And some cards (like the Saphire Flex) do allow you to use, say, 3 DVI ports, but they are the exception.

So, in summary, you need to either get two active DP adaptors, or get one and get an HDMI adaptor to use the HDMI port on your Graphic Card.

My monitors have HDMI slots but I cant seem to get a picture when plugging a lead from the card directly into them from the PC, I can get pictures onthem using HDMI from the XBox
