Hi,

I'm trying to flash the BIOS on my Abit AB9 Pro but I can't get all of the files onto the floppy!

Am I doing everything right?

I create an MS-DOS boot disk in windows
Copy files download in zip from Abit for BIOS update

At this point all the files will not copy onto the disk because the disk runs out of space.

The files im trying to copy are:

AB9_16.BIN
ABITFAE.BAT
RUNME.BAT
awdflash.exe

Any ideas??

don't, I use a DRDOS bootdisk.

alternatively if you have Windows installed you can use FlashMenu (recommend that you download the BIOS file & use "update from file" rather than "1-click" mode)

Cool, I did have a look at that windows based flash thingy that abit does, my board wasn't in the supported list, I was gona go ahead and just use it but my bro advised me not to.

Shall I just go ahead and use it?

Got any rewritable DVDs or CDs?

If so, make a bootable floppy withn XP. Use the bootsector off the floppy to create a bootable CD, then copy the BIOS files, etc, onto the CD image - and burn!

Nice idea that mate, I'll give that a go next time. I have used Flash menu (windows based) to update the BIOS, seems to have worked!

When ever I need help, I try and see if anyone else has had the same problem. You can do this via searchin on google.

Good luck

Happy New Year

Make the Windows floppy then delete ALL the files on it EXCEPT
IO.SYS
MSDOS.SYS
COMMAND.COM

Then copy the files from the .zip file.

I can't find any of those files on the floppy when I create an MS-DOS startup disk, there are only keyboard and VGA files 10 in total!

Start menu > Run > type in CMD and press enter > type in DIR A: /A > FILELIST.TXT and press enter > type EXIT and press enter

Now find the file FILELIST.TXT on your computer, and copy and paste what it says in here.

it should have been installed as part of uGuru.
As for not seeing files on a the floppy do you have show hidden files & folders ticked in folder options?

Those files are hidden/system files and by default Windows won't show them. No problem as you want to keep them anyway. Delete what you can see.

Or if you want to see them, you need to enable hidden files.

Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
Double-click on the My Computer icon.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
After the new window appears select the View tab.
Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.
