Hi guys,

I'm trying to force my computer to use the following ip address to 192.168.1.4

I can't seem to get it to be able to do this, I can make it read as 192.168.1.4 but the internet itself won't work, ventrillo etc does.

I've also tried forcing the router to do it but it seems to of failed.

That seems to of sorted it, cheers mate.

Quick question about the warning that pops up, should I worry about it?

Thanks agian

I have never seen that warning before, but for a home network set the DNS the same as the gateway and it has always worked ok for me so I never looked further into the matter:) I wouldn't worry about the warning.

Windows does sometimes decide to be gay about the connectivity of wireless and the IP so I always manually enter it for my laptop now.

Ah alright. Thanks for the help mate, at least I can portforward without changing the ports every time :)

Alternatively you could use open dns in the dns settings as they are usually much more reliable than your ISP (certainly better than Virgin anyway)

They are:

208.67.220.220
and
208.67.222.222

I've just put these in then/ I'm using VM. I'm not sure what the benefit is though, could you explain a little?

Thanks :)

It takes the job of translating domain names to ip addresses away from your router and onto a platform dedicated to providing domain name resolution.
