Got a bit of a problem with my Galaxy 6800GT
Since I’ve had the card (September 2005) I’ve pretty much had it running at 400/1100 with no problems. Last night I was playing FEAR and about 30 mins into it I started to notice artifacts on the screen. Instantly I thought this can’t be good, so I quit game and went straight to Nvidia desktop to check card temp. Card was at 70c and started to drop so I’m guessing that it was only at 75/80c under load? I changed the clock settings back to stock (350/1000), rebooted PC went back into FEAR and played for about an hour or so. Phew no artifacts so no permanent damage, I think :D
Anyway, after this I started to clock back up again try and get it back to 400/1100. Started off in small increases, 10Mhz for Core and 25/50Mhz for Memory and ran 3d mark 05 between increases. I managed to get the memory at 1090 (1.09Ghz), started getting artifacts at 1100 (1.10Ghz). Got the core to 390 but kept getting lock ups on 3d mark 380 was ok. Thought I’d try 400 anyway and Nvidia test wouldn’t even complete!? Tried 380/1090 which was stable, but got better 3d mark scores at 370/1080.
I don’t get it? Why has my card just stopped working at 400/1100? My temps seem ok and I’ve not made any other changes to the card/settings. Would I have to update the BIOS with NVFlash? Maybe try the basic ultra 4001100.rom BIOS? I’m a bit worried about doing this as I’ve never done graphics card BIOS update before :( As long as I back up my old BIOS I should be ok shouldn’t I?

If I were you I'd be playing it safe sticking at stock speeds now, the Galaxy 6800 series weren't exactly the most robust/reliable cards.

Hmm might just have to do that. When I was playing at stock last night I didn't really notice any performance decrease anyway. I'm due to upgrade anyway around August/September time. Looking at whole new system, got about £1000 to waste ;)
