Help with getting a laptop?

One of my family was planning to get a new laptop for £300-400 roughly, mainly for office stuff but also to play a game every now and then (mainly things like L4D2, and LOL, ect ect so nothing major).

can anyone recommend one, or maybe just parts that i should be looking out for that are good/bad? my knowledge of laptops is not that good.

Pick out a laptop that suits your needs for you price range (dvd drive / plenty of hard drive space if required), more RAM the better for budget.

Then check the CPU / GPU included with the laptop on http://www.notebookcheck.net/

Here it gives you a benchmark of what sort of FPS you will get on the games you plan on playing.
