Help with Graphic card - or new rig??

Could one of you kind people please suggest a good upgrade for the PC I have for the family. Currently it runs a AMD Radeon HD 7770 1GB card which is struggling with some games.

The rig has a Corsair 600 Watts CX600 Gaming Power Supply powering an ASUS M5A97 V2 AMD 970 Chipset, ATX mainboard with an overlcocked AMD FX-6300 CPU with 2x4GB PC12800 DDR3/1600mhz memory and with Windows 10.

I am not sure how much of an upgrade I will get with a new Graphics card or whether it would bottleneck - of if I should for a full Mobo/CPU upgrade which may mean a new rig. This PC was bought on a budget so maybe time to move on?

Another option would be to take the Nitro 390 out of my PC and use that and get myself a new card.

Thanks in advance!

Depends how much you want to spend?

Moving your 390 over to it, and then getting a GTX 1070 for your overclocked 2500k PC would be a very sensible option.

The RX 470 is about the same speed as the R9 390, or a little slower.

Would either of those cards bottleneck the respective PCs??

The FX6300 will bottleneck an R9 390 a little bit, but not too bad.

A 2500k at 4.4 GHz would only hold a GTX 1070 back for 1920x1080 (or below) 144 Hz gaming. If you're playing at 60 Hz, or 2560x1440 (or above) resolution then it'll be fine.

That'll be roughly the limit of a 2500k though. If/when you wanted to get something more powerful than a GTX 1070 you'd want to then upgrade your CPU at that point.

Thats very helpful advice - thanks!

Both PCs run on 1920x1200 and are 60hz. No plans to upgarde the monitors at this time.

I will go with the plan of putting the 390 into the AMD system and buying a 1070 for Christmas!

No problem :)

You could come back and ask about specific 1070's when the time comes. Since there's so many of them :p

You don't need to go mad and get the £450+ models, there's some under £400 which are decent.
