Help with graphics card(s) upgrade please

Hi there , My trusty PC ( in my signature ) has started crashing during games and i am suspicious of my gfx cards. I have ran memtest and it's not my memory.

I am gonna start by replacing my current gfx cards as i will eventually upgrade the whole PC but i will start with the cards.

The current setup has 2x MSI GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card running in SLI.

I am wanting a large performance upgrade from these and i would ideally like to purchase a single card this time round. What options do i have that would make a noticeable difference ?

I don't really want to spend rocket money ( the cards nearer a thousand are out )

Hi mate thanks for the reply , that would be within budget ! Im not wanting to go down the SLI route so that would be great if it will out-perform both the 580s! If i got excited i would stretch to 500-ish but perhaps a 1070 would be all i need and more.

I should add, i have 2 monitors a Dell 28" U2711 which operates at 2560x1440 and a IIyama 27" monitor at 1920x1080 connected. I run my games on the Dell and would like to game at 2560x1440 . Thanks
 
I'm running a 1070 with a 2500k, on a 2560x1440 screen, and it copes fine.
If you want a solid 60fps at all times, you might occasionally have to lower the odd setting such as antialiasing, but I don't ever feel like graphical quality/performance is 'lacking'!
 
Prices for 1070s and 1080s are falling currently. A new card is due from AMD. Better informed people can tell you when.

Might be worth holding off for a bit if AMD Vega is imminent.
 
Well go with GPU first anyway, if you are still not satisfied, then you can build a new system and move the GPU over

New today - 1070 / 1080 / 1080ti depending on what you want to spend

Used today - 980ti

Or wait and see what vega brings (though you might be waiting a while so I wouldn't bother waiting if it were me)
