help with heatsink asap please

hello everyone. still plodding along.

Glad I wasnt around in them days!! getting enough lip from the missus as it is. Anyway on with the build which is nearly finished, sort of. Sometime later on today i,m going to do the post test with the case open..Just hoping everything works as i am getting a bit peed off with the whole thing.

I am bit confused about the bios menu. I know i should boot from disc first time to install o/s but then after restart wouldnt it still be on disc drive or do i hit f10 and change to hdd?

thanks for any help

You are nearly there mate - don't give up hope :)

1) Set your BIOS as follows:
First boot device: CD-ROM (might be shown as DVD-ROM)
Second boot device: Hard Disk
Third boot device: Disabled

2) Put the Windows Install disk into the PC and reboot.

3) Let your PC boot from the Install DVD.
If you are asked to "Press any key to Boot from CD/DVD? ..." then press a key.

4) The install will copy files to your C:\ drive and then restart automatically (in order to finish off the install).
If you are asked to "Press any key to Boot from CD/DVD? ..." then DON'T press anything this time.

5) Once it has finished installation and you arrive at your Windows desktop, take the DVD out of your drive. Your PC will boot from the hard-disk from now on.

6) If you want, you can make future boots quicker by setting the BIOS as follows:
First boot device: Hard Disk
Second boot device: Disabled
Third boot device: Disabled
(This will save a few seconds as it will stop your PC looking for a boot disk)

tonester thanks for big up.

did as you have said and windows is loading as i write this.saved bios settings and disc loaded and installing. how long does it take and what happens after windows reboots. Do I have to go in the bios again and change or will it happen automatically from the hard disk sorry for the noobie questions but just very nervous. thanks for your time and patience.

windows will restart a few times.

it will ask for a user name/pasword.

it will then finally boot to a desktop, i think it will then restart one more time.

install motherboard drivers/chipset/sata and usb drivers.

graphic card drivers.

sound drivers.

windows updates

and run the windows performance index if you are using Vista/win7

Change the resolution of the screen.

Right click on desktop click Change Resolution or Screen Resolution

Change it to 1920x1080 and make sure your aspect ratio is 16x9

3d mark, vantage and the newer DX11 one.

Heaven benchmark

cinebench

pi fast/super pi

you can use CPU-Z and GPU-Z to check the settings.

yes.

you can stress test with Furmark, and also run CPU-Z and GPU-Z at the same time, and click on the SENSORS tabs to monitor temps while furmark is running

good afternoon everyone.

Bit of a problem here with the monitor. tried to change the resolution to 1920x1080 but i cant find that resolution in the list of resolutions. so i still have the borders all around my desktop. driving me crazy.

I should also mention that i have downloaded zilch in the way of any drivers for anything whatsoever. could this be the reason. any help would be great.
thanks guys
