I have a HP laptop and got following on start up. Do i need to replace battery and if so where from?

HP Battery Alert BIOS has detected that the capacity of the internal battery has been reduced. This may be caused by environmental factors such as low ambient operating temperature, or it could be due to aging of the battery pack. Operating your system in a warmer location or operating your unit for a while might resolve this condition. If the condition persists or if you have an older system please contact HP service."

Determining if you  need to replace a bagtery is down to if the battery is still lasying long enough for what you ate using the laptop for.

I have had a few laptops with similar warnings over the years, I haven't actually replaced any of the batteries as I don't really spend any time away from a power supply (used almost exclusively for gaming and data processing) so the battery is only really helping to avoid losing stuff if the power dies most of the time.

My work HP laptop has been warning about battery capacity for a while too but that will do about 5 hours with the screen brightness turned down as tbe battery it came with was absolutely massive.

powercfg /batteryreport

Creates a HTML report with the estimated battery capacity. Search for more detailed instructions.

thanks I did hp diagnostic test and battery needs replacing it said.

I cannot find replacement battery on hp website. Should I try ebay and amazon

If the battery lasts long enough that it doesn't cause you an issue, then it's not an issue (for you)

Battery is totally gone, did diagnostic and said needs replacing problem being I cannot find replacement as per post above

It’s an aftermarket battery made by a third party so not HP branded or the ‘original part’ so to speak but will still work. If you want the HP original one then they sell that also but much more expensive.

HP don’t make batteries anyway so take your pick….

Is the HP original one the one for £73?

This. If you find a battery with HP branding, it's just ink on the label. You will be able to buy an unbranded, equivalent battery from the real OEM. Dynapak, for example, make a lot of high quality batteries for various laptop manufacturers.
