I've got a 27" Late 2013 iMac with the standard 8GB (2x 4GB sticks).

I'd like to upgrade the RAM with a 16GB kit as I'm beginning to notice a slight performance dip in certain tasks. I've generally used a matched upgrade from Crucial when upgrading any machine in the past, is this still my best move?

I've already looked on Crucial and can get a 16GB upgrade for about £120 inc VAT. I think I can get the same kit on the rainforest slightly cheaper but I'm not 100% sure it's the correct kit. Would someone be able to confirm if I'm allowed to post a link?

Is it also worth me keeping the standard 8GB in my iMac as well, along with adding the the new 16GB? Any problems mixing RAM sizes/manufactures in a mac?

Use the Crucial site and it'll tell you the proper part number. Then get the 16GB kit from wherever is cheapest. Add it to your existing 8GB to give you 24GB like I have.

As long as it's the same part number, it will work just fine and at the exact frequency and timings that Apple's own modules operate at.

Excellent! Just as I've done when searching and was wondering about the RAM.

Thanks very much.

I went with the memory from the rainforest in the end and bought two sets to max out my iMac to 32GB. I saved myself £40 in total over ordering direct from Crucial as well.
