Help with iPad password after bereavement

I'm hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction.

My dad passed away in December and I'm busy sorting through his estate for my mum, lots of paperwork, probate, usual stuff, utilities, council tax, unfortunately nothing is in my mum's name other than her bank account.

My dad bought my mum an iPad and she also has a Windows laptop. My dad set them up and in reality my mam never really used them very much, but I need access to her email for a few things.

I can't get into either device, my dad clearly turned them on. The iPad says locked to user with my mum's apple id but when I try to reset it via the apple id site I'm going round in circles, the email used to reset the password was my dad's and shock horror, I've not got the password.

My mum has 1 email address and my dad had 2 and they are all used for resetting passwords but I can't get into any of them.

Ironically my dad had a sheet for paper with loads of usernames and passwords for plenty of stuff, but none of it useful and none of those passwords work. I'm conscious too many attempts may lock me out as well.

If I went into the Apple store where he bought the iPad with my mum, proof of purchase and my mum's ID and a death certificate would we get anywhere? I'm guessing not.....

Here you go:

Thanks for the link, but I'm not sure that will work, as the Apple ID is my mum's and she is still with us, but it looks like only my dad knew the password.

A request to remove the activation lock needs my mums email address which I don't have access to without getting into the iPad first, so I'm going round in circles a bit, can only try!

They've approved the removal of the activation lock, but it will wipe the iPad so no use.
If I try to reset the apple ID password the recovery email is my dad's email which I don't have access to either.

There's masses to do and annoyingly this the toughest thing!

Am not sure forum rules allow explaining how to
Obviously would like to help you
But I don't want to get a ban for doing so if its not allowed
It might be considered hacking etc by forum rules
If an admin says its OK happy to explain it
First admins name comes to mind is feek as its easy to remember
Will tag them or if you can find any other admin
@Feek-Admin

Totally agree - the penny didn't drop until well after I had posted that, someone very kindly dropped me a hint which I'll try this weekend
