Help with lag on L4D :(

Hey, for some reason I'm getting consistant lag on left 4 dead, I'm talking in the range of like 1500 ping, and like I say, its consistant, every server I go on. I share internet with my brother, this has never been a problem before, I recently upgraded from 0.1mb internet to 1mb internet, and its only gotten worse since then, my brother keeps bitching on about how it must be the left 4 dead servers, but no one else in game lags, its just me. Sometimes I'm fine, but then other times I just lag to a degree in which the game is unplayable.

Any ideas on how to fix this or what the problem is?

Sometimes after updates with steam games you can get lag like that.

Try removing exceptions for l4d.exe from any firewall (including windows firewall obv...), and then create a new exception.

I get terrible lag in L4D after 5 pm on every server. Its the only game where my ping is in the hundreds. In CSS its 32!

Do you still get the problem when your brother's computer is turned off?

Checked his downloading/torrent habits?

I get the same thing and don't have a clue why.

Another possibility is use of a Thompson/Speedtouch router.

Double check your rate settings aswell. Kearney had his set at 7500, wondered why he was getting lag (Should be 20000 to 30000).

I get bad lag at a certain time in the late afternoon to early evening, however if I'm the lobby leader in l4d the lag disappears - work that one out I can't :s
