Help with laptop please.

i have been givin a time n17 laptop to have a look at as it was not picking up the hard drive.
when i go into the bios both primary and secondary ide are disabled and im not sure how to enabel them. any ideas?

There should be an option in the bios to enable it but if its not there then I am sure it will automatically enable it anyway when it detects an IDE drive.
 
It could be a problem with the motherboard.... not good if it is :(

How did the problem start? Was something changed in the bios by mistake?

As andr3w1984 said there should be an option available in bios on the screen where it says "disabled" to enable it.

I pressume the other hard drive is fully functional in machine in was taken out of?

You can get adapters for a few pounds to allow you to connect the laptop hard drive to desktop pc....very handy for testing and retrieving data :)
