Trying to fit a new light to the ceiling, never done this before and despite looking at a few youtube video's i'm still a bit stuck.

I want to replace this :

With this :

So this is the old hanging bulb rose :

Which has

1 x earth (green/yellow)
1 x live (black with red sleeve)
2 x neutral (black)
3 x loop (red)

However the new light fitting only has a hole for Live and Neutral, and a screw to connect Earth to :

So the question remains, what do i do this those 3 red loop wires, and with the second neutral one ?

This ligth is on the middle floor and can be switched on/off from a switch on both this floor, as well as the ground floor, if that's any help.

You need to use a connector block to connect the loop cables together and the 2 neutrals may fit into your fitting which is fine or use a connector block and 2 in 1 out into the fitting.

you may need to connect the 3 earths the same way if they dont fit into the fitting.

Go & get a 4 terminal junction box & terminate wires in that, then run a short length of cable (1mm or 1.5mm twin & earth) from the black(Netrual) & Black with Red sleeving (Switch Live) to your new fitting, don't forget to sleeve the new wires to fitting lampholder with the supplied heat resistant sleeving, & don't forget earthing the fitting.

Usually easier than using seperate terminal blocks.

The terminals on that new light fitting are small & will only take one wire.

EDIT: If you can find Hager J501 downlighter junction box, they are smaller than the round ones & easier to hide.

Cheers for the quick reply guys.

I just noticed the white terminal bit can actually be removed from the black rose :

So i assume i can just use that again right ?

But as the earth wasn't connected into that, do i still need a terminal box for those 3 earth cables (thanks for mentioning that, i hadn't even seen there were 3 coming out!) ?

Don't use that, you don't want the brass terminals that exposed.

I'd make a slightly bigger hole in the plasterboard and shove the rose up into that and just wire the light off it.

No. no.no.

Good idea using pendant rose, but do use a piece of cable with earth, & not the pendant flex like some do.

Also mark the switch cable with the red sleeving, can save a lot of hassle if it falls off.:o

Just got back to B&Q with one of those round little terminal boxes you recommended. This one was space for 4 cables. Also bought some cabling.

So i am correct in saying :

3 x earth --> terminal box --> 1 x earth out into earth screw of new lamp
2 x neutral --> terminal box --> 1 x neutral into new lamp.
1 x live --> terminal box --> 1 x live into new lamp.
3 x loop --> terminal box (clamped together).

Yes. but make you do this.

1 x live --> (Black with Red Sleeving 'Switch Live') terminal box --> 1 x live into new lamp.
