Help with Linux please (PS3)

Finally downloaded Yellowdog 6.0(Took all night)

Just noticed I don't have any empty DVD'R anywhere
If I put the ISO on a memory stick or external HDD can I still install it to the PS3?

This is my first time ever using Linux so you can expect me to be back asking for help

Found a DVD/RW disk!

Mainly getting Linux so I can use VLC media player, anyone had any experience with this on the PS3?

Also do you have to use mouse/keyboard or can you use the PS3 control pad?
