Help with low framerates and loads

Hi guys, I need some help figuring out what might be bottlenecking my system or what upgrade might be best for me.

When I play I usually have CoreTemp and GPUZ open to monitor CPU load and GPU load, and more often than not, neither is above 50%. Sometimes, a single thread on my CPU will be between 60-80%. My framerates however, are in their 20's. Is something else bottlenecking my CPU and Graphics card, preventing them from doing more work and thus reducing framerates?

I play mostly: DayZ, Arma, Rift, CS:GO, Dota2, Civ5, Skyrim

Spec:

CPU: AMD x6 1055T, no overclock
GPU: XFX Radeon R7950, no overclock
MotherBoard: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P
Memory: 2x Kingston ValueRam, 4GB Total
OS Drive: Crucial M4 SSD 128GB
PSU: CoolerMaster Silent Pro M 500w

Also a Samsung BluRay drive, and a 500GB Western Digital disk drive. Zalman Silent CPU cooler.

The SSD is Sata 3, while my motherboard is only sata 2. Is the transfer of data around my system too slow? Is my power supply not quite good enough? Is my motherboard and memory combo too "cheap" (around £70 for the lot) for the rest of the system?

So I don't really know where the main cause is for my low loads and framerates. Any help would be appreciated, and if you can suggest an upgrade, max I can spend is around £100, maybe 150.

Thanks :).

CPU, at its stock speed of 2.8GHZ is quite a bottleneck, especially when you're playing games that demand core for core performance, and your core for core performance isn't all that high at all.

On the upgrade front, you're kinda fudged.

You're on a completely dead platform.

The CPU will be bottlenecking lots with a HD 7950. Not 100% sure but I don't think you can really upgrade it as the socket is AM3 but some do accept AM3+ processors so the FX line might work for you, can someone back this up?

How much RAM you got? If it's 8GB, it's not a priority to upgrade.

You have three options open to you.

A brand new AM3+ board so you can overclock your CPU (However, AM3+ is pretty much confirmed as dead upgrade wise) to 4GHZ, which will net you quite some performance, but you'd need a board you can abuse bus clocking with... That said, you occasionally see cheap Crosshair IV Formula's that can do like 350 bus (You'll be able to max out your chip on a Crosshair IV Formula) I bought one for about 50 quid once.

An FX8320 with a compatible board for overclocking (Set you back about 200 quid), not sure how good your cooler is, but either way you'll be able to get more performance than you currently are.

However, with your game choices, an i5 4670K would be your best bet overclocked, but a CPU, Mobo for that is 250.

Neither have any foolproof upgradability (AM3+ is pretty much confirmed dead, socket 1150 currently is in a state of limbo as such, but apart from the meager refresh coming up, I honestly can see them killing it off for 2015)

Even if it's a rev 5.0 board you'll still be restricted a lot in the CPU you can use, and is only PCI-e v2.0.

I think the time may have come for you to upgrade both the CPU and the mobo. Everything else can be recycled in your new build.

Ah my bad, forgot to put that detail in... only 4GB.

Thanks for the info and advice. The next upgrade I'll do when I can will be my CPU and motherboard platform then. When that time comes I'll do the research into which route to go.

Start with a CPU and MOBO, when you have more cash go with some new RAM. The rest of your stuff including your current RAM will transfer fine.

In the mean time you could try overclocking the CPU a little.
