Hi folks

I'm about to sort out my system prior to BF4 appearing and one thing I want to do is install Windows 8 (seen a lot how it can improve fps a bit from the beta) and give this new OS a try (new to me anyway). But the one thing I'm pretty nervous about is updating the bios. I've heard that there's been a lot of problems recently with Windows 8 causing bios issues - I would hate to lose my oc'd bios settings...I've never oc'd anything myself - it was oc'd by the company I got it from - and I know nothing about tweaking bios settings. Is there anyone that could be so kind as to guide me through this process please? Maybe even let me know what to do if the update doesn't work and I have to do (I think it's called this anyway) a bios flashback? My mobo is a Maximus VI Hero brought on the 13th of July. Maybe I don't even have to worry about updating the bios if the current one isn't that old...but I have no idea.

If anyone can help me PLEASE do! I'm loathe to try this without getting some more experienced advice form the folks here on the forum.

Thanks in advance!

you can save your current bios/settings by pressing f12 and using a memory stick in the bios,it will take screenshots of each bios page

then to flash/update it extract the bios file to the memory stick, enter bios and flash through ezflash

then re enter your bios/oc settings

Thanks - do I need to reset my bios settings prior to flashing it? I read somewhere that flashing the bios prior to this can damage things which is worrying and I'd don't want to screw this up.

Updating the Hero is simple. I have done mine at every bios release and it just works. You will lose you OC settings so do as Wazza300 suggests or write them down on a piece of paper. Download the latest bios and extract it. Right click and rename the bios to M6H.CAP then transfer it to a usb stick formatted to fat32. Shut the pc down. Pop the usb stick in the bios flashback port on the rear i/o panel (white one) and press the usb flashback button (directly above the slot) for 3 seconds until the led starts blinking and then release. When the led stops blinking it's done. Reboot and enter the bios to redo all your settings.
