Guys, need some help please.

My 9 speed X0 rear mech is knackered and I've decided to convert to 2x10 but need some guidance.

I'm going to buy the following:

M786 XT Long Cage Rear Mech
M770 10 speed XT shifters
11-36 XT Cassette
XT 10 Speed Chain
Gear cable.
New Chain Rings....

but have no idea what teeth combination to go for. All my riding is at trail centres around the UK. I'm pretty useless on the climb if thats any help :) Want to buy it tomorrow as I'm going to BPW this weekend.

How much is chain rings compared to the full thing? (forget the name)

Also would a medium cage not be better?

A full groupset on Merlin is £299. If I buy the parts I need it comes in at about £156, plus the 2 x chain rings.

I think a medium might be too short depending on what cassette and chain ring combo you go for?

Chains are slightly thinner overall width to fit between the narrower space at the back but the inner plate dimensions are the same so they sit on the same chainrings.

Front mechs are narrower to suit the narrow chain.

i have 9 speed rear mech, 9 speed cassette, 10 speed 28/36 deore chainset and a 10 speed deore front mech running with a 10 speed chain. Works a treat to be honest.

Ok thats good then if the inner dimensions are the same, it should have no problems running on a 9 speed chainset.

Thanks guys. Placed my order on CRC. Had to get an Alivio 38T ring as that's all they had, but will replace it at some point if necessary.
