If I could just get some of you more experienced guys to check my OC for me, to make sure somthings not drastically out that would be great, thanks.

Here's what I've managed to screw from my E6400 sofar:

Spec is in Sig.

FSB = 430 x 8
PCI @ 100Mhz
RAM running @ 860mhz 4.4.4.12 timings
FSB Overvoltage set @ +2v
gMCH set @ +2v
Vdimm set @ +3v

Vcore is set @ 1.46875v atm

Heres a quick Orthos pic to show the temps:

3440.jpg

It 'Seems' stable enough here, but If I set the Vcore 1 step lower than this (1.4625v) it fails Orthos after about 5mins. Any higher with the FSB and it fails consistantly also. (I havnt dared go over 1.48 Vcore for fear of CPU meltdown :p)

However I can get 3.2 Ghz stable @ only 1.3625v and lower Ram&FSB voltages too, I'm wondering if its best to leave it at that ?

Anyway, Is there any way of bettering this Overclock or is this my chips safe reasonable limit do you think, would lowering any of the voltages be wise or are they ok ?

ALSO, is the Vcore im running @ at the moment too high for Air cooling, my temps seem ok i guess (Tuniq is set to only about 1/4) ?

Thanks for any of your help folks, I'm learning slowly :p

you might be hitting the oc wall, try upping the vcore and see if it makes any difference but keep and eye on the temps though

Ok I'm gonna be brave and try 3.5Ghz @ 1.4875 Vcore in the Bios, keeping a beady eye on temps.

It seems fine @ 3.44Ghz/1.47vcore~ so ill try for a little more :D

Fails after 4/5mins sadly :( Does 3.44Ghz look like my safe limit then I guess, could loosening my RAM timings help matters atall ?

My temps on load where 53/54c @ 1.49v btw, Im guessing this is still within the realms of acceptability for such a high Vcore on air ???

As far as i know (i'm just coming to intel from a high clocked Opteron) i've seen low 60's as acceptable temps for C2D's. Wait for someone to confirm but i think i'm right.

Can remember as i was miffed my stupid opteron would get to 60 degrees @ 2.95ghz. That was a great clock and it could have done 3ghz but A64's, X2's and Opties shouldn't really run over 55 degrees ideally.

I should be getting my new e6600 in a couple of days so will post on how i get on there.

I think your temps are fine though Sipha! ;)

I'm sure you could push the volts a little further to stabilise 3.5ghz.

See what someone like w3bbo says! :)

Thanks gt_junkie, its reassuring, I may try for a touch over 1.5Vcore as my Temps just dont seem to rise very much atall for some reason

I dont think I've ever seen over the high 50's in any situation, however it also appears my C2D chip could be a bit of a Voltage whore :(

TBH orthos will push the cores more than anything you'll realistically encounter in pc use - including games, encoding, etc...

Let me know how you get on. :)

I would be trying the same but my chip didn't arrive this morning so i would expect it will get to me after the bank holiday! :(

Good luck fella!

Well after my misfortune with a certain E6600 Chip i decided to pop back in my old E6400.

Had a play around and managed to get 3.6GHz stable now :D

Its sitting at 1.50vcore in the bios, I think my temps are ok tho, what do ya think ?

Nice temps!

Nothing to worry about at all! You taking it further or are you happy with that? I know i'd stop there as that's a great mix of performance and cool running!

Sorry the 6600 didn't work out! What did you decide was wrong? The chip or your ram?

Good job anyway - that's a good clock on a 6400! ;)
