Help with my first TV

I need help setting up my first ever TV!

My last one was a huge CRT in about 2003 and it was only connected to a playstation, I've never had one for watching stuff on.

It's a Samsung smart TV thingy, how do I watch films that are on my PC hard drive in the next room? presumably I can connect it somehow?

Either use the built in streaming features, or get a android TV box or similar. It'll see any shared directories on your LAN.

When I press the home button on the remote it brings up sources and when I scroll across I can see some PCs (I have several) but I've no idea how to configure it all so I can, safely, watch stuff from them.

Edit: is this a question best asked in one of the PC sections?

read the manual. You either need to share directories, or setup a streaming service.

Ok will do cheers. Just a quick one, presumably I can just put the films on an external drive and plug that in direct and watch them from there?

Yes you can (plug into the USB port on your TV and use the TV's own media player)
I personally just use a Rasperry Pi 3 with Kodi and use that to watch my movies on my hard drive.
