Hi guys, I currently own THIS HiS 7950 and wanted to see what it could be pushed safely to do, so I had a little play in Overdrive in CCC and simply upped the clock from 800 to 900, no memory increase or power increase, I know they are good clockers so I thought a 100mhz increase shouldnt be much issue, so I hit apply and ran unigine and left it running.

After a while my temps were maxxing out at 79 - 80c which I'm wondering is that too high? I have a bit fenix shinobi xl which doesnt have the best intake in the world but I also have a bottom intake which helps a lot. The card reaches the 70's at stock anyway and it hasn't seemed to be a problem but I don't know what these cards can be ran at? Just wondering if I should even be playing, when temps are already what they are without even touching the memory yet.

Your case is the problem..

The XL (as with the original shinobi) has pretty poor airflow..

I feel its something to do with the awful stock fans.. The spectre's have very poor airflow...

Changing the fans for better ones would be my suggestion.. (or get a new case)

That should see temps go down a bit.

Though as said above you temps are safe so you don't need to worry.. Im just giving advice on what i'd do at a later date

thanx for the advice all, good to hear that 80c isnt going to cause problems :)

As for my case, I have added a 120mm Spectre pro as a bottom intake which helps a lot, that front intake is seriously starved!

looking at that link but my HiS card isnt the ice-q version its a more standard looking card.

How would I go about using a custom fan profile? is there a better piece of software you'd adise over simply using the Overdrive tab in CCC?
