Hi all, Basically i am currently using my old pc as a Server PC, the spec is

Motherboard:
DFI LANPARTY UT NF4 SLI-DR

Processor:
AMD Athlon X2 4400+ (Socket939, with Arctic cooler 64)

RAM:
2gb (4 x 512mb) Corsair XMS DDR500

Graphics card:
ATI Radeon x800 128mb

STORAGE:
2 x 74gb Raptors in striping array (boot drive)
XFX REVO RAID 3 Controller with 5 x 200gb HDD's in RAID 3
2 x 300gb Maxtor HDD in Striping array
3 x 200gb HDD

2 x antec 460watt truepower PSU's

Now i know this is off relativly high spec (although dated now) but i only really use it to keep my media, audio and picrutes on, this seems to me to be a bit OTT and i was thinking about selling it and using the money to get some massive external storage, I can either get a NAS drive and atach it to my router or external drives and attach it to my media pc (which is of pretty high spec), the only questions i have is..

Should i go for a NAS drive and if so what would you recommend or shall i go for external drives to attach to my media pc (which will be always on), im needing in excess of 2tb storage?, one last question is do you think i will make enough money on selling my system to afford this?

Thanks.

you would have more flexibility with a PC rather than a home NAS storage solution, for example you could configure the machine with other server software for example a PPTP server for remote access to your network.

Just an example but is worth considering.

sorry i couldnt give a more definitive answer to your problem.

Your computer uses considerbly more power than a NAS, ignoring the number of drives (power consumption) You could buy a NAS but really looking at single/dual bay. Quad bay are pretty expensive.

You probably want a quad bay, fit four 1TB drives.
