Hey guys, basically im having trouble booting my new build PC when 4GB of ram is installed but its works fine with 2GB. The spec is
Q6600
2 X 2GB OCZ PC6400 Vista Performance Gold
MSI P43 Neo-F mobo
GTX 260
500GB Hitachi Deskstar.

Ive updated the bios to the latest version which didnt help hense this post. does anyone know of anything within the BIOS which could be resulting in some sort of conflict and not letting it boot to Vista (64Bit)

is it the same one stick? or do they both work but individually? If you just keep trying the same stick its possible the 2nd is faulty, try running memtest

No, he has 2 sticks, call them A and B
He has stated it will only boot with one stick in, I was asking if it will boot with either A or B but only one, or if it will only boot with A not B (or vice-versa), if its this last option its a faulty stick, if its the first option its more than likely BIOS/mobo related

tried both sticks individually and they both work by themselves. will it more than likely be a mobo issue? the mobo supports upto 16GB or ram so would it be a setting in the BIOS that i'll have to change? because surly it cant be hardware related?

Thats what I said. If it doesn't boot with one of the sticks, say A, but not B, it's stick fault. Probably could have made my post clearer by putting 'one' in italics, to emphasize sticks A/B.

hey shinester. just tried changing them from the green to the orange, tried one in each colour and still no luck in booting with both sticks in.

Which colour slots are the sticks working solo in? It will defo be bios/mobo issue if both sticks of ram are fuctioning, even on their own.

Try one stick in the right colour. Then turn off computer, and put other stick in the other slot of the same colour. Then it may work. But make sure you go : 1 Stick > boot > off > 2 sticks > on > hopefully boot.

the bio are updated to 1.7 which i believe are the latest ones. just tried your idea shinester and still no luck

Check the voltages going to the Ram against the manufactureers web site. I have one stick that stops the PC from booting at default bios settings but is OK when I increase the voltage to 2.1 (OCZ spec).

I've heard this happen to friends before, it's a vista thing I think.

get everything running and updated with the one stick, check the correct voltage for the ram. Put other stick in, adjust v in bios and it should work.

Hey guys. tried upping the voltage to 2.1 when boths sticks are in and still not luck. would there be any other settings that might need changing to make it boot?
