Hey all

I'm looking to build a rig that I can take to various video game tournaments to either record or stream them. I was initially looking at a laptop but I can get more for my money from a SFF computer (already have a monitor sorted too)

Here's what I've though of so far..

The system will be running Wirecast, TotalMedia Extreme and small doses of Photoshop and video editing software

Any ideas on a motherboard? Is the GPU too much for what I need?

OR

Should I go for a laptop instead (if so, which)?

The Define Mini is not a SFF case, do you really want to be carrying around a case that big?

Why not look into a SG05/6 (comes with PSU) or similar sized case with an Asus P8H67-i motherboard or a SG01/2 with a H67 mATX motherboard instead? There are cases like the NZXT Vulcan which have a handle which will make it easier for you to carry around, though I'm not sure if it will fit that card

P.S why do you want to record/stream video game tournaments? I'm not a gamer so I find that quite weird

Thanks for the advice on the case and motherboard!

As for why I'd want to record/stream...

It's actually pretty common within the fighting game scene to record matches at tournaments and to stream tournaments too. In the UK there are very little streams going on as compared to the states, this is something that is slowly changing. It's just about getting exposure for the scene really.

I've updated it a little....still can't decide on a case + PSU

GPU comes in at 20.01cm x 11.12cm x 3.81cm

Why not something like;
Intel Core i5-2400 - 150
Asus P8H61-I Intel H61 - 65
Lian Li PC-Q11B (Holds 2x 2.5" and 2x3.5" drives plus DVD) - 82
Corsair Builder Series CX 430W V2 (depends on video card) - 36
G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB - 40
Western Digital Scorpio Black 160GB (fast small boot drive) = 37
Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB (recording / streaming drive) - 31 (special this week)
Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB (archive drive) - 64

Total = 505 + video card & dvdwriter if required.

RB

Thanks for that, will definitely look into this.
