I have a budget of roughly 1k. I will use it for audio production - so lots of encoding etc, and gaming. The absolute highest I can go is 1.2k.

Is it worth getting a system like this? (possibly with a better mobo and 6gigs of ram) or a high-end 775 system instead?

Would that board clock to 4Ghz?
Is 3Gb ram okay in comparison to 6gb?

etc etc.

I need the monitor and OS.

Ditch the OCZ PSU.

PC Power & Cooling or Corsair is much, much better. Swap the 500GB HDD for a 640GB.

Plus, personally, with an i7 system, I would couple it with a better graphics card. A 4870 1GB would be ideal. Vista Home Premium instead of Vista Home Basic too.

Other than that, everythings great. Buy a couple of Sharkoon's for the Antec 300 too (there are no front fans fitted as standard).

that's good, but you'll want better than vista basic, try home premium or ultimate

Whats the difference?
I couldn't care less about Aero. I'll turn it off anyway.

Also is it worth going for 6gig? How much of a difference will I see?

EDIT: one more thing, I have two IDE disk drives already, again, worth getting the SATA over my IDE's?

if you have ide, make sure the mobo supports ide, I think that one does, but make sure, there are other benefits to having home premium over basic, not sure atm, but 6gig will deffo be faster than 3, more responsive etc, wait for someone to come and confirm all I've said

Home Basic can only address 8gig of ram max i think (ms website should be able to check this one out)

Sata drives are now a lot better than ide (well i found they are) at very least when it comes to building the pc (less wires to faff about with)

Probably best to say more ram is always better too, try to get as much as you can afford as it does make a difference to your experence using a pc day to day :)

I probably wont be using more than 6GB of RAM for a long time, so basic is still fine for me.
Is there any more compelling evidence to go for premium? I'd like to know as I need to keep costs down as much as possible. I'll be using a 'buy now pay later' finance option.

Anyone care to do me a similar build with 6GB of RAM and a 4870? Preferably with a better mobo too. I'm not set on Gigabyte by any means, I just want the one with the best overclock.

I've upped my budget to a solid 1.2k, as I've realised theres no point in skimping.

get a good 775 rig...
